Maligano Jasper is a relatively rare stone found in a specific area in Sulawesi, Indonesia, and was only officially discovered as late as 2011.  Maligano Jasper is a bright, earthy, unique brecciated Jasper comprising of predominantly irregularly patterned components of terracotta, ochre, grey, white and black jasper.  However strong orange and deep red coloured Jasper can also be a part of the Maligano Jasper mix.

This particular carving is styled to represent Pan, a God in ancient Greek mythology.  Pan ruled over nature and in particular wood areas and pasturelands.  Often depicted as part man, part goat, Pan was stated to be wildly creative, possessing great strength and having a wicked sense of humour.
